OrbitDisk runs on macOS 14 or later. Choose a folder or external volume, explore its storage map, then review your selected items before moving them to Trash.
Choose Scan folder (⌘O). Start with Downloads, your home folder or an external drive. macOS access restrictions may prevent some locations from being measured; the result shows the number of unreadable locations. OrbitDisk cannot scan as an administrator.
Inner rings represent immediate children; outer rings represent their contents. Click a segment to explore. Double-click a folder in the list or press Return when focused. Use the breadcrumb path or back button to navigate up. App bundles are presented as whole items.
Largest files lists items by allocated size. Search matches filenames across the current scan. Use the file-kind menu to filter videos, images, audio, archives and apps. The list shows up to 500 matching items. Export a CSV for the entire scanned file list using the toolbar export button.
Add items using +, then Review collection. Remove anything you want to keep and confirm Move to Trash. You can restore items through Finder’s Trash. Space is reclaimed after you empty Trash in Finder; APFS shared data and snapshots can affect how much is reclaimed. Changed items may be rejected; rescan and review them again.
OrbitDisk reports allocated file blocks, counts hard links once and includes hidden files. It does not measure snapshots, inaccessible folders or all filesystem overhead. APFS clones, compression, purgeable storage and shared blocks can cause differences. “Available” uses macOS capacity available for important usage and may include purgeable storage.
Recent folders retain macOS permission through security-scoped bookmarks. If a bookmark expires, select the location again. Forget recent locations in Settings clears the saved list. All scans run locally with no uploads or tracking.
